DRAWING CLASSES

PAINTING CLASSES

PAINTING CLASSES

Our drawing program helps students build essential skills for all types of art by focusing on accuracy, observation, and technique. Students will learn to draw from life, measure objects for precise proportions, and explore various dry media. Through guided exercises and hands-on practice, they will develop a strong foundation in shading, perspective, and composition. The class encourages creativity while strengthening technical abilities, helping students grow as artists. With a focus on both technical training and creative expression, this class equips students with the confidence and tools to incorporate drawing into their daily lives.

By the end of the program, students will have the tools and confidence to bring their artistic ideas to life.

CLAY CLASSES

MIXED MEDIA CLASSES

MIXED MEDIA CLASSES

Clay classes provide students with an exciting opportunity to explore the art of ceramics through both handbuilding and the pottery wheel. In handbuilding, students will learn essential techniques like coiling, slab construction, and sculpting to create detailed and expressive forms. On the pottery wheel, they’ll develop skills in centering, pulling, and shaping clay into functional vessels. With a focus on technique, creativity, and craftsmanship, these classes help students build confidence while transforming raw clay into beautifully finished pieces.

MIXED MEDIA CLASSES

MIXED MEDIA CLASSES

The mixed media program introduces students to a wide range of artistic techniques and materials, encouraging creativity across multiple forms of art. Students will explore various hands-on projects, such as stamp-making, polymer clay sculpting, wood carving, basketry, and papier-mâché. Through these and other diverse mediums, they will develop skills in texture, layering, and 3D design. The class fosters both technical growth and creative expression, allowing students to experiment and discover new ways to create. By the end of the program, students will have a well-rounded understanding of mixed media art and the confidence to explore new artistic projects.

Pencils & Artist Pencils

A pencil is one of the simplest tools, and one of the easiest to get ahold of. Learning to draw and measure objects to recreate them on one’s page is a very important tool that is easily mastered with just a little bit of time.

Colored pencil - another readily accessible art tool! Students work in colored pencil when we begin our study on the color wheel and basic color theory. In addition, learning to blend in color pencil is an excellent way to work on one’s touch and pressure control! More controlled blending means less visible pencil lines.

Oil Pastel

While it can seem challenging in the beginning, students will quickly learn why charcoal is Mrs. Erin's favorite medium!  It goes down quickly, erases out to create textures, works wonderfully for working large, and always looks like a masterpiece!

Oil Pastel

A fun and forgiving medium that is vibrant and easy to work with. For younger students, we work in oil pastel when we first begin our color theory lessons. They are easy to blend, less messy and wonderfully efficient for working on large artwork!

A more advanced medium that students typically begin after learning about drawing from life and controlled mark-making. Student’s learn to make decisive pen marks in order to create realistic texture -AND- how to camouflage and adjust for mistakes.

Pen & Ink is an opportunity to practice controlling where a viewer looks and what is most important in the drawing.

Watercolor

Acrylic paint is a versatile, fast-drying medium commonly used in our classes. It is water-based, making it easy to clean up with soap and water while still wet. Once dry, it becomes water-resistant, allowing for layering and bold, vibrant colors. Its quick drying time makes it ideal for classroom projects, enabling students to work efficiently without long waiting periods.

Watercolor

Watercolor paint is a translucent, water-based medium frequently used in art classes. It dries relatively quickly, allowing for fluid blending and layering techniques. Since it reactivates with water, it remains easy to adjust even after drying. Its washability makes cleanup simple, making it a great choice for student projects and expressive painting styles.
